Biodolomer® may be converted to a wide variety of blown film applications ranging from organic waste bags, shopping bags, and agricultural film. Biodolomer® is available for bottle blowing, thermoforming, and injection moulded conversion.


CALCIUM CARBONATE CONTRIBUTES TO THE EARTH'S NATURAL FERTILITY. THAT IS WHY GAIA ADDS CALCIUM CARBONATE IN BIODOLOMER®.


Calcium carbonate is added in growing medium to raise the pH interval and supply plant life with calcium and magnesium to raise growth potential.

Calcium carbonate contains trace minerals like silica which also improves growth. Silica gives nutrition, mechanical strength, and resistance against fungal diseases.

Calcium carbonate is used to counteract acidification. That is why calcium carbonate is spread over fields, lakes, and forests to neutralize the pH value.

GAIA has developed a biomaterial called Biodolomer®. Biodolomer® is a registered trademark and a protected construction material. GAIA meets the recommendations set by the UN and EU.


Biodolomer® is fully degradable and compostable. It has been tested and approved by the international test institute AIB-Vincotte according to the OK COMPOST HOME and SEEDLING standards complying with the European standard EN 13432.


Biodolomer® contain dolomite and mostly renewable binder.


Biodolomer® may be used in existing production machines.


Biodolomer® is biodegradable and compostable. Biodolomer® can be recycled into energy.

Biodolomer® Vapour fulfills the requirements of the existing standards for compostable and biodegradable polymers, because it is degraded by microorganisms. Biodolomer® create no micro plastics. The biodegradation process in soil depends on the specific environment (climate, soil quality, population of microorganisms).


Biodolomer® Vapour is one of the few compostable polymers, which complies in its composition with the European food stuff legislation for food contact, EU Directive 10 / 2011 / EC with amendment 2016/1416 and US food contact notification for the main components: e. g. FCN 178, 475 and 907. Specific limitations and more details are given on request.


Biodolomer® Vapour is supplied as lenticular pellets in 1 t big bags. Storage time of unopened bags at least 12 months
at room temperature (23 °C).


Biodolomer® Vapour has been developed for conversion on blown film, cast film and lamination processes.


Biodolomer® Vapour may be used as a breathable laminating layer in non-woven, and other structures, for hygiene and medical applications.

Biodolomer® F30 has been developed for the conversion to flexible films using a blown film process. In view of numerous factors influencing functionality and shelf life of Biodolomer® films and finished articles made thereof the production parameters have to be tested by the converters before utilization. Additionally, sufficient field tests are required to ensure the right functionality of the articles made from Biodolomer® F30.




Biodolomer® I is a biomaterial developed for the injection moulding process.


Biodolomer® I, is one of the few compostable polymers, which com- plies in its composition with the European food stuff legislation for food contact, EU Directive 10 / 2011 / EC with amendment 2016/1416 and US food contact notification for the main components: e. g. FCN 475 and 907. Specific limitations and more details are given on re- quest. The converter or packer has to check the suitability of the article for the application.


Biodolomer® I is supplied as lenticular pellets in big bags.


Temperatures during transportation and storage may not exceed 60 °C at any time.


Storage time of unopened bags may not surpass 12 months at room temperature (23 °C).


Injection-moldable products made from Biodolomer® I benefit from an optimum balance of rigidity and toughness. Biodolomer® I, is very versatile in its range of application by injection molding. They also enable customers to produce biodegradable plastic components on conventional injection-molding machines. With our innovative Biodolomer® I grade, it is possible not only to fill thin-walled molds but also to achieve cycle times comparable with standard materials in the packaging industry. Furthermore, Biodolomer® I exhibit a noticeably increased flowability relative to comparable biodegradable injection moulding grades.

Biodolomer® T is a biodegradable biomaterial developed for the thermoforming process.


It is basically a compound of a biodegradable aliphatic-aromatic copolyester (PBAT), polylactic acid (PLA) and calcium carbonate.


Bidolomer® T consists of up to 90 % of renewable resources depending on application.

• Opaque structure with DSC melting points for PBAT and PLA • High strength and stiffness
• High, but controllable water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) • High melt strength: MFI (190 °C, 2.16 kg): 3-4 g

• Good thermo-stability up to 210 °C
• Good processability on conventional sheet extrusion lines, e. g. for PP

• Water based decoration. No corona treatment is necessary


The processing of Biodolomer® T on sheet extrusion lines depends on the formulation, the extrusion technology and processing conditions.


Trials are always recommended to assess the quality of the final product.

Biodolomer® T has been developed for the conversion to extruded films from 0.3 to 6 - 8 mm thickness using a sheet extrusion process with subsequent thermoforming operation. Typical applications are packaging film for cups, trays, boards and other thermoformed containers or articles. In view of numerous factors influencing functionality and shelf life of Biodolomer® films and finished articles made thereof the production parameters have to be tested by the converters before utilization.


Additionally, sufficient field tests are required to ensure the right functionality of the articles made from Biodolomer® T. We supply technical service information concerning the sheet extrusion process with Biodolomer® T on demand.
